| The latest KISS and UNION news from L.A. | ||
| - From KISS Kollector, RH - | ||
|
Word just got in from L.A., where about thirty Dutch fans (and some other nationalities too) are spending a week with KISS Kollector Fanclub. The highlight of the trip will be tonight's Halloween show of course, but some really cool things have happened already. First of all they went on a tour of Dodger Stadium yesterday. The massive KISS stage had already been completed and the crew was actually testing the pyro when KISS Kollector Fanclub was there. The party also noticed that the huge KISS Army banners are present again, just like on the last tour. And more interestingly: it looks like both Gene and Paul are going to fly during the show, this time around as well.
Last night everybody went down to the Coconut Teaser in Hollywood to check out Bruce Kulick with UNION. The first thing that caught everybody's eye was Bruce's hair. He had it cut short! Nevertheless, the show was excellent and included two KISS songs from the Carnival of Souls album: Jungle and I Walk Alone. John Corabi (lead singer and formerly with The Scream and Motley Crue) took some time to welcome the KISS Kollector party, which was really cool. Other people attending included Bob Kulick (Bruce's brother), Andre Augustine (KISS' former personal assistant), Gerri Miller (editor-in-chief with Metal Edge magazine), Lenita Erickson (L.A. singer with whom Bruce toured in 1996) and a bunch of fans from the Internet. Bruce shared some very interesting news with KISS Kollector. First of all, there's going to be a UNION live album. It has already been recorded and is being mixed right now. The album will also include two bonus tracks and is expected te be released early next year. Secondly, the Return of the Comet tribute album will be re-released with 'industrial' versions of all songs. For this, Bruce is going to record God Of Thunder and Detroit Rock City. As if he has time left, Bruce has also begun working on a solo album. It may be quite a while however, before this is finished. Finally, Bruce had some interesting ESP news, which, unfortunately, can't be disclosed right now (but people from Down Under better check these pages regularly!). Watch this space for more news from Bruce real soon. |

| Psycho Circus goes gold: 500,000 copies sold? | ||
| - From KISS Kollector, RH - | ||
| As widely reported in the last few days, the Psycho Circus album went 'gold' last week. KISS latest album received a gold certification from the RIAA (Record Industry Association of America) on October 22, 1998, almost exactly one month after its release. When an albums goes gold in the United States, this officially means that 500,000 copies have been sold. According to Soundscan, however, only 218,000 copies of Psycho Circus have been sold so far. After some investigation, KISS Kollector found out that the RIAA certification only establishes the fact that 500,000 cd's and tapes have been shipped to record stores. On the other hand, it appears that not all record stores (including Tower Records for example) report to Soundscan, so the number of albums really sold may be closer to 300,000 than to 200,000. With the Psycho Circus Tour kicking off this weekend and lots of air play for KISS on FOX TV, Psycho Circus sales might get a boost. With a little luck the album goes platinum sometime next year. | ||
| L.A. filming for Detroit Rock City cancelled | ||
| - From KISSONLINE - | ||

| KISS stay in character for Millennium appearance | ||
| - From Billboard Online - | ||
While they ain't exactly known for their subtlety, KISS pulled the wig over everyone's eyes
on a recent jaunt to Vancouver where they shot a Halloween episode for the sci-fi show
Millennium. Lengthy-tongued bassist Gene Simmons spent a full day on set playing scar-faced
character Hector Leachman without once divulging his true identity to anyone, not even
when protective crew members told him to stay away from the set's props and its star,
Lance Henriksen.
"I saw him trying to get into a piano room," confessed a staffer. "I promptly gave him a very dirty look and locked the door on him." The band admitted that they loved the opportunity to perform on X-Files creator Chris Carter's other show. "Millennium stretches the limits and the boundaries between fantasy and reality," enthused Paul Stanley, "much like KISS does. The cool thing was that rather than play ourselves in a recognizable state, we disguised ourselves once again, which is a way to give our fans something extra in guessing who's who." Leading man Henriksen was equally enthusiastic: "I never saw KISS before this show; I'm a total KISS fan now. I've got an eleven-year-old daughter and I can't wait to bring her a guitar pick!" The episode, dubbed Thirteen Years Later, will air on FOX on October 30th. |

| KISS No. 2 in ticket sales at Ticketmaster | ||
| - From KISS Kollector, RH - | ||
| KISS is up one spot in both the Top Tour Searches list and the sales list at Ticketmaster. In both listings KISS is in second place now, after the Dave Matthews Band. With tickets for a number of KISS show going on sale this weekend, KISS might well be the number one seller at Ticketmaster next week. The current listing of Top Tour Searches is as follows: 1. Dave Matthews Band, 2. KISS, 3. N Sync, 4. Phish, 5. Billy Joel. The 'Top Events as of Oct 28, 1998' are: 1. Dave Matthews Band, 2. KISS, 3. N Sync, 4. Phantom of the Opera, 5. Billy Joel. | ||
| KISS prepares for Halloween conquest | ||
| - From Wall of Sound - | ||
KISS' Gene Simmons says he wants the band to be "seen and heard everywhere, so you can't escape us."
That'll certainly be the case this weekend, when the FOX network practically turns into KISS-TV. The blitz begins at 9 PM EST Friday, when the group guests both in and out of make-up on a special Halloween episode of the science fiction show Millennium. "This guy is having hallucinations, and there are people who are murdered mysteriously," Simmons explains. "Ultimately, this guy winds up in a KISS video shoot for Psycho Circus, so we're also in it in KISS make-up. I play a bum and then a killer, and I wind up killing myself and assuming my [on stage] identity."
The KISS conquest of FOX continues at 11 PM Saturday, when the group makes cameos in several sketches on MAD TV, which is being hosted by Nightmare on Elm Street star Robert Englund. And at midnight, FOX presents KISS Live: The Ultimate Halloween Party, a live broadcast of the group's concert at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles. It will be tape-delayed for the West Coast. Viewers won't be able to catch the eye-popping 3-D effects KISS will be employing on the tour, but Simmons says the broadcast should offer a sense of what he and his band mates consider the greatest show on earth. "We're going to take you away," Simmons tells Wall of Sound. "We showed a 3-D video at our press conference, and people just flipped. I was looking at them wearing the glasses, and you could see people's heads just shoot back at the same time as if someone was throwing a baseball at their heads. It's intense." |

| Alice Cooper not involved in lawsuit | ||
| - From KISS Kollector, RH - | ||
|
According to E! Online, Alice Cooper himself was not aware of a lawsuit being filed against Paul Stanley and Bruce Kulick for copyright infringement over the song Dreamin'. This comes as no surprise, because KISS and Alice Cooper have been known to be on a friendly basis with each other for a long time. Read the article right here:
Suit pits KISS against Alice Cooper - From E! Online -
At first glance it looks like a dream courtroom match up heavily mascara'd '70s shock-rocker Alice Cooper vs. heavily mascara'd '70s shock-rockers KISS.
Alas, a showdown between the aging masked musicians is not to be. Instead we have to settle for Cooper's music publisher suing KISS creative forces Paul Stanley and Bruce Kulick for allegedly swiping an Alice classic. According to a complaint filed in federal court in Los Angeles October 21, a cut off KISS' new Psycho Circus called Dreamin' rips off Cooper's 1971 hit Eighteen. A call to the publisher, Bizarre Music (which apparently doubles as a law firm the receptionist answers the phone "law offices"), revealed that Cooper doesn't know about the suit. Neither is he "involved in any way," attorney Martin Kelete said. But that's not stopping Kelete's 'publishing company' from suing the two KISS songwriters, the band and its record company, Mercury, because as the lawyer puts it "there's an awful lot of similarity between Dreamin' and Eighteen." "Substantial similarity plus access creates a way of proving there's been copying," Kelete said. Reps for KISS didn't return calls for comment. |

| Paul Stanley and Bruce Kulick sued over Dreamin' | ||
| - From KISS Kollector, RH - | ||
|
Paul Stanley and Bruce Kulick are being sued for copyright infringement over the song
Dreamin' from the new Psycho Circus album. Supposedly it sounds to much
like the Alice Cooper song I'm Eighteen, a classic from his 1971 Love It To Death
album. The complaint was filed on October 21, by Six Palms Music Corp., the company that
owns the rights to this song. Read these reports from the Internet to find out more:
KISS, Alice Cooper in legal clash - From Billboard Online - KISS members Paul Stanley and Bruce Kulick are being sued for copyright infringement over the song Dreamin'. The complaint alleges that the song sounds too similar to the Alice Cooper hit Eighteen. Billboard Bulletin reports that Six Palms Music Corp.,
publisher of Eighteen, which was written by Cooper and his band, filed the complaint
Oct. 21 in the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles; the suit also names PolyGram International
Publishing Inc. and Mercury Records. Dreamin', written by Stanley and Kulick, is a
track from the new KISS album, Psycho Circus, released Sept. 22 on Mercury.
Six Palms, which also does business as Bizarre Music, is seeking unspecified financial damages. Parties involved in the lawsuit did not return calls by deadline. Alice Cooper sues KISS - From Undercover - Alice Cooper has filed for copyright infringement against KISS. The suit alleges that the song Dreamin' off the new KISS album Psycho Circus is similar to Alice Cooper's I'm Eighteen, released over 28 years ago. The suit was filed Oct. 21 in the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles against songwriters Paul Stanley and Bruce Kulick, Polygram Publishing and Mercury Records by Six Palms, the publisher of the Cooper song. KISS' Stanley, Kulick sued over Alice Cooper copyright - From MTV Online -
KISS front man Paul Stanley and the band's former guitarist Bruce Kulick are being sued for
copyright infringement by a music publishing company that claims a song on the group's new
album is too similar musically to Alice Cooper's song Eighteen.
Six Palms Music Corp., which filed the complaint, claims that the KISS song Dreamin' from the band's Psycho Circus album is a bit too close to the Cooper nugget. The company, which published the Cooper hit, alleges that Stanley (who co-wrote the song with Kulick) must have heard Cooper's 1971 classic track several times as the two groups rose together in the theatrical rock genre. Six Palms is seeking an unspecified dollar amount in the case. Also named as defendants are Polygram International Publishing, Inc., Hori Productions America, Inc., Robert Bruce Music Ltd., Abba-Cadaver Music, and Mercury Records. A spokesperson for both KISS and Mercury Records had no comment on the suit, but did say that as of press time, the record label had not been served. The suit was filed on Wednesday in the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, about a month after the release of Psycho Circus. KISS is currently gearing up to kick off their 3-D world tour in support of the album on Halloween in Los Angeles at Dodger Stadium with show openers the Smashing Pumpkins. A trial by jury is demanded in the suit. |
||
| More tour dates confirmed today | ||
| - From KISS Kollector, RH - | ||
| More North American tour dates were confirmed today, bringing the total number of dates announced for the Psycho Circus World Tour so far to 22. This includes two dates in Canada early December, which brings the Psycho Circus Tour outside the U.S. for the first time. No extra shows for New York City's Madison Square Garden were announced, so it looks like KISS will play their home town only once this year. The '96/'97 Alive/Worldwide Tour included no less then four shows in America's most prestigious venue. Head straight to the Psycho Tour section for a complete listing of all tour dates. | ||

| Confusion over super group Garbo Talks | ||
| - From KISS Kollector, JvP - | ||
|
There seems to be some confusion over Garbo Talks and the album this super group
from New York will release early November. A little while ago, the label that is putting
out this album in Holland, Suburban Distribution (also the Dutch label for Bruce Kulick's
band UNION), informed KISS Kollector about this new super group, featuring Paul Stanley
and Bruce Kulick. Apart from a very short bio in which Paul, Bruce and (ex-)members of
Foreigner, Danger Danger and Saraya are being mentioned, there was no further information
available at this time.
Today KISS Kollector received the full details on Garbo Talks. According to the information from the record company, not only do Paul Stanley and Bruce Kulick play guitar, the long list of participating musicians also includes Eric Carr on drums! There is no mention of when these tracks were recorded, but obviously this must have been quite some years ago, since the late Eric Carr passed away in November of 1991. The track listing of the Garbo Talks CD is: 1. Only Love, 2. Hard Times, 3. This Could Be The Night, 4. Elenah, 5. Give Me Your Lovin', 6. Standing In The Same Room, 7. Fire Me Up, 8. Foolish Heart, 9. Easy Come Easy Go, 10. Game Of Love, 11. I Live For You. The participating musicians are: Paul Stanley, Bruce Kulick, Tony Bruno, Steve Thomas and Paul di Martola (guitar), Jon Gorman (vocals), Al Greenwood (keyboards), Bob Held and Gary Taylor (bass guitar), Eric Carr, Chuck Bonafante and Vinny Conigliaro (drums). The main part of the band consists of: Jon Gorman, Bob Held (Steeplechase, Joe Lynn Turner), Al Greenwood (Foreigner, Spys) and Tony Bruno (Danger Danger, Saraya, Joan Jett), who laid down the main tracks. Paul Stanley, Bruce Kulick and Eric Carr helped out with one thing or another. Bruce Kulick informed KISS Kollector during the weekend that he doesn't know anything about this release. Since record stores in Holland are ready to start ordering the CD, we hope to find out when these tracks were recorded soon. As stated in our previous report: more news here, as soon as we get it! |

| KISS dance tribute album from Japan | ||
| - From KISS Kollector, RH - | ||
| A new tribute album was released in Japan recently, called KISS-The Medley: A Dance Orgasm. The album is just as strange as the title suggests. It's a collection of dance covers of 26 KISS classics, all mixed together. Some of the covered songs are a little out of the ordinary too, most notably Tonight You Belong To Me from Paul Stanley's solo album. Being dance versions, these covers are very different from the original songs, of course. But in some strange way, they also stay true to the originals in a lot of respects. The various singers, for example, really did their best to sound like Gene, Paul or Ace respectively. It may be no coincidence that the following Paul Stanley quote can be read in the liner notes: "No matter what changes, it's still gonna be KISS." The album's artwork is professional and very well done, although it does not include any KISS pictures. The album was produced by 'D.J. NICK DIO & DR. PIKO ESQUIRE' and released on Acex Trax/DeDance Records, catalogue number: AVCD-11664. | ||

| - From KISS Kollector, JvP, special thanks to Ronald Draaijer from Suburban Distribution - | ||
| It appears that a new super group has formed, consisting of (ex-)members of pretty well-known bands such as Foreigner, Danger Danger, Saraya and... KISS. The name of the New York based band: Garbo Talks. Paul Stanley and Bruce Kulick play guitar. | Psycho Circus added to Much Music video rotation | ||
| - From KISS Kollector, RH, special thanks to Robert Paslawski - | ||
Canadian music television station
Much Music has added the Psycho Circus video to their rotation. Together with
the video, they've also been showing a video fragment from a City TV show called
Movie Television.
In this interview clip from the set of FOX Television's Millennium show, Gene can be
seen holding the microphone for Paul to speak into.
Movie Television: "Is there something missing in rock and roll today?" Paul: "Well,obviously something is missing in rock and roll because on the last tour, after being gone for 17 years, we played to almost 3 million people, so that says a whole lot. I think people are tired of cry babies, I think people are tired of making millionaires out of people who don't appreciate the fact that they're famous. You know, it's so hard to see somebody say 'It's terrible being famous and rich', because if they were smart, they never would have tried so hard to become rich and famous. The best thing you can do for those people? Stop buying their cd's, buy ours. We thank you for your money, and we work hard for it!" |

The new official KISS web site at KISSONLINE has recently been updated. Some interesting facts directly from the source:
|
||

| New KISS Kollector web site online | ||
| - From KISS Kollector, JvP - | ||
After quite some preparations the new version of KISS Kollector Online is finally
online as of today! As you will see most of the site is still heavily under
construction (but then again, isn't a site that takes itself seriously always
under construction as it's being updated all the time?!). We hope, however, that
what's online at the moment is interesting and promising enough to have you return
soon and in fact have your return here regularly.
This site wasn't created to be the next competitor for the many KISS sites already
in existence, its main purpose is to serve as an online addition to the KISS Kollector
Fanclub and its fanzine: KISS Kollector
Magazine. Most, if not all, of you probably remember (the old version of) KISS
Kollector Online as hosted by KISS Asylum - we still have a splash site there and we would like to take
this opportunity to thank Jurn Schulze (webmaster of the old web site) and Chris at
Asylum for the many great years - but in agreement with all parties involved it
was decided to have the new web site hosted by a n i m a l i z e . c o m and EuroNet Internet in Holland. One of the advantages is that we
are now able to update on a daily base and also have more space to grow.
To only put up bits and pieces from back issues of the magazine would be rather dull so we decided to have news, interviews, photos, etc. here as well. Check it all out for yourself and come back soon to see what has been updated or added to the site. One particular piece that we would like to mention right here and now, can be found in the Features section: a very unusual and revealing interview with Gene, which originally appeared in an old issue of KISS Kollector Magazine... Also, below you'll find some of the latest news as well as some older 'news', that we put up here when we were preparing things before they could go online. Enjoy this new site, and do check out the magazine if you've got some time! |

| Psycho Circus: the new KISS album | ||
| - From KISS Kollector, JvP - | ||
The new KISS album Psycho Circus, as released on September 22 in the USA, was officially
released in Holland on Monday September 21, but since nobody wants to work on a Sunday
the album was shipped to record stores on Saturday or even Friday September 18! The album
exclusively premiered on Holland's nationwide late night radio rock show Umma Gumma on Radio
3FM during the last two weeks of August. On Saturday, October 3 the album debuted in
Holland's Mega Album Top 100 at No. 53 (only Sheryl Crow debuted higher that week,
at 52). Some chart highlights from all over Europe: No. 5 in Germany, No. 5 in
Finland, No. 4 in Norway and No. 1 in Sweden! In Japan the album has been released
in a different (fold out) package and with the bonus track In Your Face, sung by Ace.
If you open the circus curtains the clown's head pops up, with the four KISS faces in
the background.

| Psycho Circus press conference in L.A. | ||
| - From KISS Kollector, JvP - | ||
KISS launched the new album at the September 21 press conference in Los Angeles, where
the 3-D video clip for the first single also had its premiere. Only two live dates were
announced: October 31 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles (tickets went on sale Saturday
September 26), and December 31 at the Pontiac Silverdome in Detroit (tickets go on sale
Saturday October 24). Not much news was announced by the band members, but here are some
quotes nevertheless.
Paul: "Psycho Circus is the first album we've done in 17 years and it's on the heels of the reunion tour which was the biggest grossing tour of '96-97, and it's a magical album, with the magical line up and the cover is like nothing anyone has ever seen before and the music is like nothing anyone has ever heard. We were determined to make sure that the album had all the classic elements of a KISS album, without being a retro album. We didn't want to recreate the past, but we wanted to build from what we had done before and it's unmistakable. When you put it on, the first thing you'll say is: 'Wow, it's KISS, they're back and they're great'." Gene: "Maybe the best thing you can say about Psycho Circus the album and KISS the band, is if you take a look at it as a brand new album by a brand new band, because in a lot of ways it's a new beginning for us, even though we've done this since about '74. In a lot of ways, this is a brand new beginning for us." Ace: "It's the first album we've done and we've all matured and grown as musicians and it was a pleasure working with these three gentlemen and I think everybody else will be pleasantly surprised when they hear the record. We've all grown over the past 17 years and now that we got into the studio and got to work together again has just been fantastic, and I think the album speaks for itself." Peter: "The cover is the first 3-D cover ever in rock and roll and we're always the first to do everything first and it's dynamite. Getting back again was exciting for me, especially playing with these guys. It's like they're always, you know, we laugh a lot at each other. We make fun about ourselves and that's really, that's a good thing. But playing together was awesome, I mean being, just being back in the room and everybody putting their input on it, it was cool. I had a great time. I want to make more!" |

| Major merchandise program around Psycho Circus | ||
| - From KISS Kollector, JvP - | ||
| A major program has been built around the new album and tour by KISS and Sony Signatures, who represented the band at the Licensing 98 exposition, which was held May 9-11, 1998, at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York. Not just the comics and the new action figures, but also the Multipath Music Video, the $50.000 Steleto sports car from the Panose custom-car family and a Halloween party at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles during the opening show on October 31. The sports car will be on display at a Ford dealership in each city the band will play during the tour. A radio station in New York reported that 15 of these customized automobiles will be given away in a contest. | ||
| KISS cover stories around the world | ||
| - From KISS Kollector, JvP - | ||
|
There are quite a few magazines all over the world running cover stories on KISS again,
including Guitar World from the USA and Young Guitar from Japan. Around the time of the
Halloween show, Goldmine too will publish another KISS cover story, including interviews
with all four band members.
DRUM! magazine - a U.S. magazine on, yes, drumming - did a Peter Criss cover story in their September/October issue, telling Peter's story from the days he first began to learn how to play drums up to the reunion tour. There are also side bar interviews with Eric Carr and Eric Singer. The interview with Eric Carr was conducted a few weeks before he passed away. |
